Who Is Eligible For The SIA Door Supervisor Top Up Course?
SIA top up training is a mandatory 2-day training to renew your SIA licence. Training is to ensure that current Door Supervisors and Security Guard licence holders have the same level of qualification as those newly qualified.

What Is The Objective Of This Course?
The purpose of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. It is designed for learners who already have a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a door supervisor and need to be updated with the new licence-linked qualifications requirements.
What Comprises The SIA Door Supervisor Top Up Course?
Door Supervisor licence holders must attend a 2-day Upgrade Training and an Emergency First Aid Course. Security Guard licence holders must attend a 1-day SIA door supervisor top up course and an Emergency First Aid course. Upgraded SIA Top Up training will include Terror Threat Awareness and Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers.
Before renewing your licence, you must either prove you have at least 12 months before expiry on any current first aid certificate or attend an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or equivalent before attending any top up training.
The units that make up the SIA Top Up Door Supervisor Course are as follows:
● Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry
● Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry
● Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry
What Are You Supposed To Learn In This Course?
● Know how to deal with counter-terrorism issues that affect a door supervisor
● Know the role of a door supervisor when first aid situations arise
● Know how to use communication equipment that is relevant to a door supervisor
● Physical Intervention concept theory how to protect venues and people
● Physical Intervention practical skills that are relevant to a door supervisor
What Documents Are Needed For Top Up Training Course?
On your first day, please remember to bring these documents with you:
● Your passport or Driving licence as proof of ID.
● Two proof of address, Council Tax, Government letters, Utility bill, and bank statement, you can bring two bank statements from two different banks (recent up to 3 months old)
● Two passport-size photos
What Are The Tests Needed To Pass This Course?
This qualification is evaluated by practical tests and multiple-choice exams.
● Understanding the Risks of Terrorism in the Private Security Industry:
A 10-question, 20-minute exam paper. The minimum score required is 70%.
● Using Equipment Effectively as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry:
A 5-question, 10-minute exam paper. The minimum score required is 70%.
This unit also includes a 5-minute practical exercise with communication devices (e.g. – two-way radio)
● Applying Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry:
A 30-question exam paper is taken in 45 minutes, requiring a minimum score of at least 80%. Followed by the practical, where every learner performs every technique and is internally assessed by the trainer. Learners need 100% for this part.
What Happens When You Don’t Take This Top Up Course?
If you don’t take the SIA door supervisor top up course, you cannot renew your SIA licence and continue to work as a door supervisor in the private security industry. This is because the SIA has introduced new licence-linked qualification requirements that came into effect on 1st April 2021.
The top up course covers new content on recognising terrorism, effective crowd control techniques, and physical intervention. You must complete this course and pass the exams and assessments before applying for your licence renewal. The SIA door supervisor top up course is a legal requirement and a mandatory part of your professional development as a door supervisor.
